Fishery NewsBeecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records Winter 2007 |
|
Throughout the wet winter Beecraigs Loch has
continued to fish well with winter fly-fishers adapting their tackle to suit the colder
conditions. Floating lines and intermediate lines with nymphs, dry flies or lures
have been replaced with slow and fast sinking lines with larger lures and booby nymphs.
Wrapped in warm clothing the anglers have enjoyed fine winter sport with only a few
days fishing being lost as a result of the loch being frozen over. Successful flies
have included a wide variety of coloured fritz patterns, Montana nymphs, Dawson Olives and
Booby nymphs. Cats Whisker, black and green goldheads, and Black Booby nymphs doing
particularly well. Although smaller imitative patterns have not featured as highly
in the catch returns during the winter months, these should not be discarded as on the
warmer days PTN, buzzers and especially bloodworm patterns have all accounted for good
numbers of fish. "Hot spots" on the loch have been the roadside and around
Dagger Island.Best Fish
