Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records

September 2007

Yet again September has been an excellent month for fly-fishing on Beecraigs Loch.  Light westerly winds coupled with overcast skies and falling water temperatures have given the fishermen excellent conditions leading to many quality baskets or trout being weighed in.

Best tactics employed have been flaoting and intermediate lines fished in the top few feet of the water.  As water temperatures fell, the fish spread evenly across the loch and were very active.  Last month was very successful for those fishermen who enjoy using lures with Ace of Spades, Yellow Dancer, Cats Whisker, Damsels, Orange Fritz and Pink Fritz, whilst nymph fishers have used Diawl Bach, Buzzers, Bloodworms and Pheasant tailed nymphs to great effect.   Small wets and dries should not be disregarded as both have featured well in the catch returns during the last month.

Best Fish

  • Regulars Bob rintoul and boat partner Robert Taylor weighed in 12'bows for 34lbs. 12oz. caught on a pink Cats Whisker.
  • Mr Rintoul shared another fine day on the Loch with Wishaw angler Alex MacDonald weighing in a fine basket of 12 trout for 27lbs. 11oz.  This was one of many limits shared by these anglers in the last month.
  • Pat McCluskey and boat partner Ian Calcott weighed in a good 12 fish limit for 30lbs. 5oz. all caught on a Damsel nymph while Greg Lockhart from Dunblane, fishing with Mr McLaren, brought to the scales a fine bag of 1 'bows weighin 28lbs. 8oz.
