Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records

October 2007

October has been quite a cold month on Beecraigs but largely dry and cloudy conditions have provided some superb fishing. Sport on the loch has been excellent and a lot of top quality rainbows have been caught. The fish have been feeding in the top few feet of the water with floating, intermediate and slow sinking lines all doing well depending on the conditions. Successful flies in October have been Hot Head Damsels, Ace of Spades, Black & Green Fritz, Dancers and Montana with Boobies starting to feature more prominently as the water temperatures start to fall. Good numbers of trout are also being caught on Buzzers and Diawl Bach.

Best Fish

Many good baskets have been caught. Local angler Bob Rintoul with partner Robert Taylor had a fine 12 fish limit weighing 36lbs., all caught on a Black Fritz.
Mr. Purvis and Mr. Thomas from Edinburgh also had 12 nice 'bows weighing 30lbs. 2oz. using a Cats Whisker Booby.
Alex MacDonald from Wishaw brought in 6 lovely rainbows weighing in 18lbs. 2oz.
East Calder angler Ian Jackson and partner had 12 quality rainbow trout all taken on Diawl Bach.

Clubs have had great sport on the loch during October with the Black Bull Angling Club taking 45 fish for 98lbs. 12oz. for their 8 boats.
Goth Fly Fishing Club had a good mid-October outing at Beecraigs weighing in 36 fine trout for 75lbs. 4oz.
Kilmarnock based Wellington Angling Club brought 41 fish to the scales for 80lbs.
B.P. Angling Club from Grangemouth took 30 quality fish for 64lbs.
The Bank of Scotland East Angling Club took 35 trout for their 5 boats.

Fish of the Month

Fish of the month goes to Edinburgh angler Paul Wilson for a fine 9lb. 1oz. triploid. Mr Wilson wins for himself a Scierra I.C.3 fly rod to the value of £100, courtesy of our sponsors for October, Stewart Timber Fencing of Cumbernauld.
