Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records
May 2008
May on Beecraigs produced some excellent baskets for the anglers with many limit bags recorded. Weather wise virtually the whole of the month was dominated by cold, easterly winds that made the fish feed that wee bit deeper. By far the best line was a fast glass or intermediate fished about 18" to 2ft down. Best flies/lures have been Dancer, Cats Whiskers, Black & Green Fritz, Ace of Spades and, of course, the Booby. Another fly that did a lot of damage was the Cormorant fished on the "hang" and this fly has accounted for some excellent fish.
Best Fish
- Some examples of the catches have been Bishopbriggs Trio Messrs Brodie, McKaskey and Cuthbert who fished the Loch in early May and came in with 18 Rainbows for 44lb, all taken on the Yellow Dancer.
- Greg Lockhart and A McKechnie from Dunblane had an excellent day's sport and returned to the lodge with 12 for 35lb 4oz.
- Ron Fox and Ian Pauley of Linlithgow fished orange lures to great effect and came in with 12 for 36lb 6oz. Ian had a good Rainbow of 8lb.
- Beecraigs regulars Bob Rintoul and Alec MacDonald had a field day during May and took a lot of fish including quite a few from the 7-9lb class and several 30+lb bags.

Prospects for June look excellent now as the wind has changed to a warmer westerly.
June also sees the first of the sedges hatching on the loch with the trout feeding heavily on this insect during the day and especially in the evening. Suitable patterns to try are Sedge Pupae, Mini Muddlers Snatcher, Wickhams, Invicta and Soldier Palmer. Fishery staff will gladly help with advice on patterns and the best areas to fish.
