Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records
March 2009
March on Beecraigs Loch has been superb with individuals and clubs having great sport. Weatherwise, during the first week of March, was very windy with lots of snow, heavy rain and cold winds. As the month progressed the weather changed dramatically and was very spring-like with both air and water temperatures rising considerably, much kinder for both anglers and fish alike. At the start of the month the fish wanted the fly deep down with a slow retrieve and by far the best fly was the Booby Nymph in its many forms. Later in the month the best method was a DI3 or a fast glass with Dancers, Black and Green Fritz, Montana, Cats Whiskers and nymphs being the best flies. Once again Beecraigs Loch has continued to produce a number of specimen trout and a number of anglers have taken their personal best fish form the loch.Best Fish
- Among the lucky anglers was Craig Porteous from Edinburgh whose previous best was a fish of 5lbs. He smashed this with a rainbow of 17lbs. 5oz., taken on a Yellow Dancer mid-March.
- Fife angler Pete McAlpine weighed-in with a rainbow of 16lbs. on a Black & Green Fritz while K. Dyet from Dalkieth caught his best fish at 15lbs. 11oz. on a mini Cats Whisker.
- Reg Anderson and George Findlater from Edinburgh had an excellent day on the loch and came in with 10 fish for 35lbs. 10oz. on the Buzzer and Blobs. Reg took a nice triploid rainbow of 13lbs. 14oz. on the Buzzer.
- Clubs also faired well with local club Broxburn and District coming in with 39 fish for 91lbs. 7oz. Ronnie Whitelaw had the best bag with 5 fish for 13lbs. 3oz.
- The Liveline Angling Club had a very productive outing when members weighed in 60 fish for 130lbs. 11oz., top rod on this occasion being S. Bain with 5 fish for 14lbs. 7oz.
