Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records

July 2007

July on Beecraigs was once again a very wet month with day upojn day of torrential rain.  With all the excess water the loch rose and in one day alone it came up over 4inches and that is a lot of water!  Hardy Beecraigs anglers wrapped-up well and got on with the task in hand and were well rewarded for their efforts.  Good quality fish have been caught with many 12 fish limits.

Tactics used have varied from days of floating lines and nymphs (of which the Diawl Bach, Buzzer and Snatcher were best patterns) to days of intermediate lines and lures with Dancers, Orange Fritz, Black & Green Fritz and the infamous Booby in its many guises all doing well.

Best Fish

  • Bill Stewart and boat partner Mr. Gibbons from Dunfermline had a good early outing on the loch and came in with 12 rainbows.  Bill had a good one of 6lbs. 1oz. on the Booby.
  • Bathgate anglers Pat McCluskey and Mr Wilson had a 12 fish limit on Buzzers with Pat taking a good one of 4lbs. 8oz.
  • A. Dougal and M. Dougal from Linlithgow had a good evenings sport and weighed in 12 fish for 25lbs. on the Olive Shipmans and suspended Buzzer.
  • Edinburgh angler David Lonnie, a "devotee" of the Booby, brought to the scales 6 good 'bows for 17lbs. 4oz. with his best fish weighing in at 4lbs. 2oz.
  • On the club scene, Fife Constabulary Angling Club fished a mid-July evening session and came in with 30 good fish all atken on the Buzzer and Snatcher.
