Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records

February 2009

For the third month in a row Beecraigs Loch froze over completely and it was not until the 17th. of the month that the boat fleet (which now includes 4 new Coulam 15 foot Defenders) could finally set sail.  It wasn't long before anglers were weighing-in excellent baskets with many doubles recorded.  Tactics used have been the usual for the time of year, deep and slow with best lines being fast glass down to a DI6 or 7.  The roadside shore was holding a big concentration of fish and a number of boats congregated in this area.  Successful flies and lures have been Dancer, Cats Whisker, Black & Green Fritz, Damsel and of course the Booby.  The weather at the moment in late February is very mild and is more like April with both water and air temperatures have risen considerably and the trout are feeding well
