Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records

August 2007

August on Beecraigs has seen some tremendous top of the water sport with a lot of 12 fish boat limits being caught.  Weather wise the first half of the month was very wet and with light winds.  On one Saturday the loch rose by 4inches due to a day and night of monsoon-like rain.  The second half of August was dry and bright.  During the day, and especially during the evenings, the trout gorged themselves on buzzers and sedges.

By far the best tactic was to fish nymphs and a floating line of which best patterns have been buzzers, Diawl Bach, Snatchers and pheasant tails.  Favoured lures have been Cats Whiskers, Dancer and the Ace of Spades.  Surprisingly the Booby has not been quite as effective as usual due to the fact that the fish have been feeding higher up.

Best Fish

  • Bill Ramage and Mr Arron from Alva came in with 12'bows for 26lbs.12oz. all taken on snatcher.
  • Derek Walker and J. Anderson from Blackridge had a great evenings sport and weighed in 11 fish for 27lbs. 4oz., all on the buzzer.
  • Bob Rintoul from Bathgate has caught a lot of fish during August including a 12 fish boat limit for 26lbs. 12oz. with partner Robert Taylor.
  • Andy Dougal and Terry Kelly from Maddiston and Linlithgow respectively, had a fine basket of buzzer feeding rainbows for 31lbs. 4oz.
  • Clubs have also fared well with Linden Angling Club (Stirling) weighing in 44 fish for 4 boats.  Jock Fowler had best fish, a rainbow of 4lbs. 9oz.
  • B.P. Angling Club had a very productive outing on the loch and weighed in 59 fish for their 6 boats.
  • Another local club which has done well was the Falkirk F.C. whose members weighed in 31 fish for their 5 boats.
  • Fife Police A.C. fishing from 5 boats took 32 fish mainly on the snatcher.
