Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records
April 2009
Beecraigs Loch has fished very well during April and a lot of quality trout have been caught. Weatherwise April has been a very cold month with rain and a lot of cold, easterly winds and quite a few days of thick haar coming in from the sea. With such cold conditions, the trout have been feeding that wee bit deeper and have been quite localised, with best areas being the roadside, mid-way between Dagger Island and the plant rafts, and the north-east corner of the dam. Tactics have been to fish flies slow and deep with best lines being fast glass, DI3 or intermediate. Favoured patterns have been Yellow Dancer, Cormorants, Blobs, Black and Green Fritz and Cats Whiskers. On the rare days when there was a change of wind to the west, nymphs took some good baskets. Choice nymphs were Daiwl Bach, PTN, Snatcher, Buzzers and Bloodworm.Best Fish
- Local Linlithgow anglers Terry Kelly and Andy Paterson came in with 10 fine rainbows for 36lbs. 8oz. all on the Cats Booby.
- Retired army officers Major Jim Schroder and Major Abe Seivwright had an excellent mid-April outing on the loch and returned with 10 rainbows for 33lbs. 9oz.

May will also see the start of the evening sessions on the loch which start at 4.30pm and finish at 10.30pm. Permits are available from the Beecraigs Park Centre by telephoning 01506 844516.
