Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records

April 2008

April on Beecraigs Loch fished well and anglers have been enjoying some excellent catches.  Weatherwise it was a mixed bag of cold easterlies, days of calm and light west airs.  As the month progressed the water temperature rose and this has seen the fish feeding nearer to the surface.  Tactics have varied somewhat according to the weather conditions.  On cold days the Booby fished deep and slow has proved to be irresistible to the trout with many baskets taken by anglers; on warmer days intermediate lines and lures worked best especially the Montana nymph, Cats Whiskers, Dancers, Black and Green Fritz and Damsel nymph.  On milder days and given the right conditions the fish responded well to nymphs and buzzers.   Best areas have been the Road Shore just off the point and behind Dagger Island.   Records show 31baskets over 25lbs.-30lbs., 11baskets over 30lbs.-40lbs. and a top basket of 51lbs.

Prospects for May look very good and anglers can expect fine sport as we move onto day and evening sessions.  May will see the first decent batch of buzzers and a suitable imitation on an intermediate or floating line fished quite slowly can produce some great catches.  Beecraigs Lodge carries a good selection of Buzzers, Snatchers and nymphs and fishery staff will gladly help with advice on patterns and the best areas to fish.
