Beecraigs Fishery Monthly Report, Prospects and Records
September 2009
Angling on Beecraigs Loch during September had been outstanding with many limit baskets recorded. The cooler weather has had a big effect on the fishing bringing the water temperatures down. This change brought the fish on to a "feeding frenzy" with fish rising all day long and anglers had great top of the water sport fishing with floating lines or just below the surface. Best flies have been Yellow Owl (dry), Daddies, Daiwl Bach, Damsels, Black & Green based lures and Boobies. The best areas have been in front of Dagger island and along the north wooded shore.
Regular anglers and visitors to Beecraigs Loch may have noticed that the water level in the reservoir is dropping. The council is currently lowering the water level at Beecraigs reservoir to allow for planned maintenance. Executive councillor for the environment Robert de Bold commented "Beecraigs Reservoir is an important feature of the Country Park and it is important to be maintained. The reduction in the water level will allow us to inspect the condition of the valve tower below the water line and to grout the masonry to reduce seepage within the tower". The level will be dropped in stages throughout September and October 2009.
