UPDATE ON ACCESS AT BEECRAIGS:

Cars Parks open:- Visitor Centre, Restaurant, Lochside and Balvormie. Please note that the Cockleroy car park remains closed. All main roads through the Park are open as from the 21st. January 2012.

We have managed to now clear enough paths and forest tracks to provide a good circular walk to encapsulate Balvormie, play area, visitor centre, Animal Attraction Loch and back to Balvormie. We would ask that visitors remain vigilant in the Park particularly should strong winds, snow or ice return and to follow instructions on signs, avoiding all areas marked off with hazard tape.

Unfortunately the caravan & camping site remains closed but we hope to re-open very soon. The fishery on Beecraigs Loch reopens from Monday 23rd. January.

If you are visiting any of our Parks this weekend, visitor centre staff can provide guidance and maps have been put up around the Park to help guide you.

Polkemmet Country Park

Polkemmet Country Park is a popular 68 hectare (168 acre) visitor attraction near Whitburn.  It is the former private estate of the Baillie family, who lived here for over 300 years.  The old mansion house (since demolished) sat where the bowling green is today.  Polkemmet has a rich and varied history, with many interesting stories behind it.  The Park offers beautiful woodland and riverside walks, picnic areas with seating and barbecue facilities.  Current BBQ prices and booking details are available from our Visitor Centre.

The giant aluminium ‘horn’, an art sculpture is located in the Park, sitting between the 4th golf green and the M8 motorway.  A coloured trail leads right down to this interesting attraction.

Golf is very popular in the Park and Polkemmet can boast a popular 9-hole course with an unusual 9th hole over the river, a 15-bay floodlit golf range and putting green.  Details of Polkemmet's tariffs can be found here Polkemmet Tariffs 2011

Polkemmet is also a Club Golf location, providing children with the opportunity to experience golf through a structured programme supporting early development as golfers.  For further information go to www.clubgolfscotland-youth.co.uk or contact the Park direct.

The Park’s Visitor Centre, housed in the old stable complex, offers a warm welcome together with information and advice, snacks and refreshments.

The Park, and particularly the ancient policy woodlands, are a wildlife haven. Roe deer, fox, heron, water voles, bats and badgers all make their home here. The many Oak and Scots Pine trees provide food and shelter for the birds and squirrels.  The Park even has its own white squirrel!

The Countryside Ranger Service helps to manage natural areas and wildlife, but can also arrange talks, school visits, summer events and give advice on general countryside matters.

Ivory Towers Cafe & Creative Cakes opened in 2011; the tearoom offers visitors light snacks and teas, coffee and cakes whilst the Creative Cakes business provides a cake design service (for further information go to www.ivorytowercakes.com).

Adjacent to the Visitor Centre, a new Scottish Owl Centre is presently under construction and hopes to open soon to the public.  The Scottish Owl Centre is relocating from its current home in Campbeltown in Argyll to here in West Lothian - for further information go to www.scottishowlcentre.com  The Country Park remains open during this construction work.

Rubenesque Bridal boutique is another franchise opertaing within Polkemmet Country Park; Scotland's only dedicated bridal boutique for curvaceous women www.rubenesquebridal.co.uk
